Mata proud to be Player of the Month

Juan Mata has thanked the Manchester United supporters for voting him Player of the Month for September and has praised his fellow nominees Anthony Martial and Chris Smalling.
The Spain international enjoyed an excellent month as United hit the top of the Barclays Premier League table before losing at Arsenal in the opening game of October. However, he was quick to commend the colleagues he pipped to the monthly award, the fourth he has won since joining the Reds from Chelsea in January 2014.
"Thank you," Mata told MUTV. "As always, I'm so proud to get this award and thank you very much.
"There were a few very good games [last month]. We played really well against Southampton, Sunderland and Wolfsburg and, personally, I really enjoyed it. I scored some goals and made some assists.

"The goal we scored at Southampton where I could finish off fantastic game play [was a highlight]. Also probably the assist [against Wolfsburg] was a good assist because of Chris Smalling. When you make an assist you have to have someone finish that goal and it was very important for us.
"I think Chris has been outstanding defensively - so quick, so strong and he's given us a lot in the backline. Obviously, Anthony Martial is doing great. He's settled in the team, in the club and the league very well. He's a very good player, still very young but I think he will be very important for us."
